The 80-meter-square property, completed earlier this year, was part of a collective residential area for university professors.

Lead architect Tran Ngo Chi Mai and associates aimed to integrate fresh elements into the design, while making sure that it would perfectly blend with the surrounding environment.

The team used traditional-patterned green glazed porcelain tiles for the exterior of the house, giving it an outstanding outlook.

According to Mai, the house’s name “Ngau House” is inspired by a plant with small leaves, vigorous vitality, and exquisite beauty, which the team wanted to bring to the design of the property.

“We worked with as sophisticated attitudes as possible,” Mai told NgoiSao. “We want to maintain and spread the simplicity among the houses in this neighborhood.

She also said she hoped other house owners in the neighborhood preserve the traditional vibe of the area instead of adding modern aspects to the complex.

The house used to share two side walls with two other houses in the neighborhood, which made it impossible to demolish the walls. Mai’s team then created wholly new walls for total control of the house and the design.

The team integrated old existing doors into the newly revised design in a well-thought manner, in order to preserve the traditional feel established decades ago.

Mosaic tiles were used in many different sections of the house.

The cost for design and construction, excluding electronic devices, was VND900 million (around $400,000).

Glazed mosaic tiles were also used in the bathroom as decoration highlights.
